Feature Title
Congratulations to all those who completed the Maldon Mud Race. Despite the poor
weather over 3‚000 people turned up to watch the event together with camera crews
and press officers ensuring good coverage in national and local newspapers and on
television. In fact press coverage got as far as been seen on CNN in the United States
of America!‚ we are told.
The months of preparation by the Mud Race Committee proved to be very fruitful indeed‚ with
the day progressing quite smoothly‚ and all the safety issues introduced helped to ensure that
Competitors and Spectators alike enjoyed the day‚ even to the point of making a change to the
course 15 minutes before the start of the race.
Winners
The race winner was Richard Jones from Terling‚ and the first lady home was Apryl Hammett from
Chelmsford. For a more detailed results listing go to the results page.
The real winners however will be the charities‚ Essex Air Ambulance‚ St Clare's Hospice and The Friends
of St Peter’s Hospital Maldon‚ who collectively stand to benefit from donations and sponsorship of more
than £10‚000.
All 150 places were taken up‚ and still people were hoping to take part on the day‚ 20 of these were
lucky owing to pre-registered competitors not turning up. It was great to see competitors travel from around
the UK to take part‚ including Glasgow‚ Halifax‚ London and Caterham. There were also entrants from Italy and
New Zealand. In the team event we had a group of reporters from the Maldon and Burnham Standard‚ who gave
graphic reports of their personal experiences in completing the course in the paper.
Thanks
Our thanks to Chelmsford Sub-Aqua Club‚ St John Ambulance (Maldon)‚ Chelmsford Scouts‚ RAYNET‚ visiting Lions
and a whole host of individuals who helped on the day.
