Event Success
Congratulations to all those who completed the Maldon Mud Race. Despite
the cold weather over 4‚000 people turned up to watch the event together
with camera crews and press officers ensuring good coverage in national
and local newspapers and on television. In fact press coverage got as far
as been seen in Canada!‚ we are told.
The months of preparation by the Mud Race Committee proved to be very fruitful
indeed‚ with the day progressing quite smoothly‚ and all the safety issues
introduced helped to ensure that Competitors and Spectators alike enjoyed the day.
Winners
The race winner was Gareth Parr from Caterham‚ Surrey‚ and the first lady home was
Sally Johnson from Heybridge Basin‚ Essex. For a more detailed results listing go to
the Results page. The real winners however will be the
charities‚ Essex Air Ambulance‚ Little Haven Children’s Hospice and ‘Buddies’‚ who
collectively stand to benefit from donations and sponsorship of more than £10‚000.
All 150 places were taken up more than 2 weeks before the event. Unfortunately due to
the ever increasing popularity of the event we were not able to accommodate everybody
that wanted to take part. It was great to see competitors travel from around the UK to
take part‚ including Brighton‚ Gillingham‚ London and Wellingborough. There were also
entrants from Germany and Finland. In the team event we had Essex Police‚ Maldon Firefighters
and Maldon Rugby Club.
Thanks
Our thanks to Maldon District Council‚ Chelmsford Sub-Aqua Club‚ St John Ambulance (Maldon)‚
Chelmsford Scouts‚ RAYNET‚ visiting Lions and Lionesses and a whole host of individuals who
helped on the day.
