Amount Raised

The total amount raised for organisers nominated charities by the Mad Maldon Mud Race 2004 so far‚ is:

£21600.00

Including the Asia Tsunami Appeal collection that raised:

£ 3080.00

An estimated 6‚000 spectators turned out to watch the 2004 Mad Maldon Mud Race‚ along with national and local press crews. Started by Ray Clarke from BBC Essex Radio‚ over 160 competitors raced through the mud of the River Blackwater at low tide. The organisers would like to congratulate all those who took part‚ and hope to meet you at the Presentation Ceremony later on in the year.

A Big Thank You to all the members of the public for their generous donations to the collection for the Asia Tsunami Appeal, or to the Mud Race 2004 Charity fund. As you can see from the totals above‚ all the charities supported will benefit greatly.

The months of preparation by the Mud Race Committee proved to be very fruitful indeed‚ with the day progressing quite smoothly‚ and all the safety issues introduced helped to ensure that Competitors and Spectators alike enjoyed the day.

Winners

This year’s race winner Martin Weston from Hampshire was 7th in last year’s race and this years runner up Richard Weston was 4th last year. 3rd place John Williams was entering for the first time. The first lady home was Claire Taylor. For a more detailed results listing go to the Results page. The real winners however will be the charities‚ Essex Air Ambulance‚ Fairleigh Hospice New Building Fund and St. John Ambulance (Maldon Division)‚ who collectively stand to benefit from donations and sponsorship of more than £10‚000.

Thanks

Our thanks to Maldon District Council, Chelmsford Sub-Aqua Club‚ St John Ambulance (Maldon)‚ Chelmsford Scouts‚ RAYNET‚ visiting Lions and Lionesses and a whole host of individuals who helped on the day.
