An estimated 6‚000 spectators turned out to watch the 2005 Mad Maldon Mud Race‚ along with national
and local press crews. Started by Ray Clarke from BBC Essex Radio‚ over 180 competitors raced through
the mud of the River Blackwater at low tide. The organisers would like to congratulate all those who
took part‚.
A Big Thank You to all the members of the public for their generous donations to
the Mud Race 2005 Charities. As you can see from the totals above‚ all the charities supported
will benefit greatly. Now that the Gift Aid cheque has been recieved (included in the total above)
we will be making our final donations of £1‚400 to each of last year’s Mud Race
charities; RNLI‚ Essex Air Ambulance and Friends of St Peter’s Hospital. This will be held
at the Blue Boar Hotel‚ Maldon on 31st October when there will be a Joint Dinner Meeting with the
Rotary Club
The months of preparation by the Mud Race Committee proved to be very fruitful
indeed‚ with the day progressing quite smoothly‚ and all the safety issues
introduced helped to ensure that Competitors and Spectators alike enjoyed the day.
