The Maldon Mud Race Song By Stuck In The Middle

1 May 2018

The song was written by Julian May (from Tillingham), Jon Greaves (from Southminster) and Angela Gardner (from Southminster) who have been going out as a trio for the last three years under the name of Stuck In The Middle. Last year they released their second album Fun Flight and Music which has been very well received by the public.

More recently (and importantly), however, we have added a fourth member Beth Pratt (from Southminster) on Bass making us a four piece act. Beth is a very highly proficient Bass player and the new line up has been very successful so far and we have a lot of gigs lined up for the summer.

We are making our first album as a four piece band. After having found success in writing the song about Stow Maries World War One Aerodrome and the The Purleigh Vineyard we decided to expand on the local theme and make the album all self penned songs about local places and events. ‘The Maldon Mud Race’ is the latest addition to this album. We are also putting a song together about The Battle Of Maldon, and more will surely follow, indeed ideas would be welcome.

We certainly don’t write half heartedly, before putting pen to paper we like to do a bit of research on the subject matter so that the lyrics are accurat in describing what we are writing about. All being well, we hope the album will be ready for release by the end of the year.

For this particular song we have also enlisted the help of guest musicians Gary Bennett from Heybridge on the Melodeon (like an accordion), Janice Higgins from Burnham playing the Recorder and dancers from the Dark Horse Morris, based in Maldon. All have been incredibly helpful and enthusiastic. We can’t thank them enough for their fantastic input.

It is likely that we’ll be performing The Maldon Mud Race on the Promenade this year on the day of the event.
